What to Bring to Your Bridal Makeup Trial
Booking a bridal makeup trial? Here's exactly what to bring — outfit swatch, jewellery and reference photos — so your trial actually counts for something.

Why the trial actually matters
This is the one chance before your wedding to see your look under real conditions — your skin tone, your face shape, your actual jewellery — rather than guessing from photos of other brides. Skipping the trial, or treating it casually, is the single biggest reason bridal makeup doesn't match expectations on the day.
The checklist
Bring these, and your trial will be far more useful:
- A swatch or photo of your outfit fabric and colour — the actual blouse or dupatta if possible, not just the lehenga skirt
- Your jewellery, especially the maang tikka, earrings and neckpiece — these change how we build the base and eye look
- 2 to 3 reference photos of looks you like, ideally on someone with a similar skin tone to yours
- A photo of a look you disliked, if you've had one — this tells us as much as what you like
- Your everyday skincare products, if you have known sensitivities or allergies
- A friend or family member whose opinion you trust, so the decision isn't just you under pressure later
What to tell your artist
Be specific about your day — is it an outdoor ceremony, will there be a lot of photography, how many hours will the makeup need to hold? A base built for a six-hour indoor reception is different from one built for a twelve-hour outdoor wedding with three outfit changes. The more context you give, the less guessing on the day.
Timing your trial right
Book your trial three to four weeks before the wedding — early enough to make changes, late enough that your skin tone and weight haven't shifted much by the actual day. A trial six months out is mostly wasted; too much can change between then and the wedding.

One person you trust is useful; a group of five opinions usually makes the decision harder, not easier. Pick the person whose taste you'd actually defer to on the day.
